My favorite holiday "goodness" are my mom's butter cookies with homemade powdered sugar & cream frosting-yummy! I am a mom now and try as I might-I just can't make them as good as she can. Luckily, we will be traveling 450 miles to see her and eat a few of those delish' butter cookies-mmmm good!

This is a slushy drink that the kids go crazy for! When it's time for the holidays, this is the first thing my boys ask about.

Christmas Punch
3 1/2 cup sugar
4 c. water
Bring to a boil until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat. Then add:
Juice of 1 lemon
2 qts. pineapple juice
2 qts. cranberry juice
2 T. almond extract
Freeze. When ready to serve add 4 qts. of gingerale.

OOOHHH! I hope I win this holiday stocking!
Grandma's Bread pudding-YUM!
4 cups soft cinnamon bread, torn into small pieces
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 large Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored, very thinly sliced
1/4 cup raisins or chopped dried cranberries, optional
2 cups milk
1 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons butter
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preparation:
Butter an 11x7-inch baking dish. Heat oven to 350°.
In a large bowl, combine bread, cinnamon, and apple slices, and raisins or chopped dried cranberries, if using; toss to mix.

In a medium saucepan, combine milk, brown sugar, and butter; heat over medium heat until hot and butter is melted.

In a medium bowl, whisk eggs with vanilla. Quickly whisk in the hot milk mixture then pour the mixture over the bread. Stir to mix well.

Pour bread mixture into the prepared baking dish. Set a jelly roll pan or large shallow baking dish in the oven. Set the bread pudding pan inside the larger pan. Add very hot water to the outer pan to a depth of about 1/2-inch. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until a knife inserted near center comes out clean.

Vanilla Sauce-
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 cup boiling water
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
dash salt
Preparation:
In small saucepan combine sugar and cornstarch. Stir in 1 cup boiling water. Simmer, stirring constantly, for 5 minutes. Stir in 2 tablespoons butter, vanilla extract and salt; blend well. Serve vanilla sauce warm with your favorite pudding or other dessert.

Thanks Glitz for this great giveaway!

My mom makes these yummy cookies at Christmas only because they're so fussy. They like a light shortbread cookie dipped in sugar, and you put 2 of them together with some Christmas-colored frosting to make a cookie sandwish. Yummmmmy!

I'm not a great or even good baker baker, so I enjoy simple desserts like ice cream with toppings on top like crushed candy or coconut. I have made this before with much success though...

Recipe: Kat’s Washington Apple Cake
Ingredients:
•3 eggs
•2 cups sugar (1 brown, 1 white)
•1 cup cooking oil
•2 cups all-purpose flour
•2 tsp cinnamon, 2 tsp. vanilla
•1 tsp. baking soda
•½ tsp. salt
•1 cup chopped walnuts (I like mine FINELY chopped)
•4 cups thinly sliced pared tart apples ( I prefer Granny Smith but not sliced too thin)

Directions:
1.Beat eggs with a mixer until thick & light.
2.Combine sugars and oil; pour into eggs and mix w/ mixer on medium speed.

3.Stir together flour, cinnamon, soda and salt and vanilla. Add to egg mixture; mix together. Stir in walnuts.

4.Spread apples in a buttered Bundt pan. Pour batter over apples, spreading to cover. Add additional apple layers if desired.

5.Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.

6.Remove and cool for 15 minutes. Serve.

One of our family favorites are "Hello Dolly Bars" (at least this is what my mom always called them;)).
Very easy and scrumptious!!
Use a 13x9 pan, greased; bake at 350 for about 30-40 minutes or until slightly brown on top.
Layer the following ingredients, bottom to top.
Make a graham cracker crust and this will be the 1st layer in the pan. Then add about 1 1/2 cups coconut. Next 1 bag of chocolate chips, then 1 cup of chopped pecans. The final layer is 1 can of sweetened condensed milk poured over the top of all the layers.
Bake, eat and enjoy!

Oh wow! Amazing stocking! One of my favorite treats is my grandmother's caramels. She would make them every year and send them in the box with our presents. She died a little over 6 years ago and I decided last year, that someone needs to keep this tradition going. So I got the recipe from my aunt and made them last and again this year. Homemade caramels are so much better than store bought! And it is always so wonderful to have a tradition that continues on.

My favorite recipe is an old country dish the name of which is lost to me, but I call them cottage crepes. This recipe comes down to me from my mother and grandmother and I am not sure how far back it goes from there. First you make a couple dozen normal crepes. Then mix dry curds with a couple of eggs and some salt and pepper. Roll this mixture into the crepes, place in a large casserole, pour whipping cream over the top and bake. This is always the first dish to be empty on the Christmas table.

I love the chex mix puppy chow! You know the one with the corn chex powdered sugar and melted chocolate chips. Even making a huge batch, my family can finish this off in no time!

Thanks!

Okay, mine isn't a traditional holiday "treat". My favorite treat is homemade tamales. My family only makes them once a year, because it is such a long process. We make enough for Christmas and New Years. They aren't a sweet treat, but it a treat since it is the only time of year I get some. As for the recipe, I believe you have to part of the Ramirez family for a long time to get it. Seeing how I've been in the family my whole life and all I know is how to make the masa and spread it on the corn husks.

I never win anything...but I want this stocking!!!
I grew up in the day when everything was Homemade....My favorite was always my Grandma's Vanilla Fudge...It's still my favorite....Here is the recipe
Don't you love getting the Family secret recipe?
Grandma's Yummy Vanilla Fudge

2 TBSP unsalted Butter (not margarine)
3 C sugar
1/4 C corn syrup (karo)
1/2 t. salt
1 C whipping cream (half and half works if your on a diet, cuts to calories by a little)
1/2 C whole milk
2 T vanilla (use a good vanilla)
1 C chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Place all ingredients in a 2 1/2 quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat until mixture boils, stirring constantly.
Continue cokking, stirring occasionally, until it reachs a soft ball stage (238) on the candy thermometer, or a small amount dropped in (very) cold water forms a soft ball.
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. Cool to luke warm (110) on the candy thermometer, beat until the fudge thickens and looses it's gloss. Fold in nuts and pour in a buttered 8 x 8 pan. When set cut into squares and enjoy!
It seems like alot of work, but it is SO worth it!!!!
