Floral Maya Cards with Christine Penaflor

Good morning! It’s time for me to share with you a couple of projects that I have recently created with the wonderful Maya Collection! I enjoy using sketches as a springboard for creating cards because the design process goes so much quicker, and for these two cards, I happened to use sketches from the Card Patterns challenge blog. Each week, a sketch is posted, and for the first card, I used the current week’s sketch.

For this card I used the following Glitz Designs products:
  • Maya Polka (M2297) patterned paper
  • Maya Stripe (M2273) patterned paper
  • Maya Journaling (C2464) cardstock stickers
  • Pink Block (C2815) Teeny Alpha stickers
  • Black Round (C2808) Teeny Alpha stickers

First, I started with a 5 ½” square card base made from black cardstock. Next, I layered a piece of the Maya Polka paper, which has a stitched border, onto the green side of the Maya Stripe paper.

I stitched another border around a piece of the blue side of Maya Polka paper and embellished this piece with a length of lace. Layered on top of the lace are two of the Maya Journaling cardstock stickers. The sentiment was created using the Teeny Alpha stickers inside of the green journaling label. Finally, I added Prima pearl swirls and K & Company and Prima flowers that were painted with Shimmerz Pearlz in Ballet Pink to the card to complete it.

For the next card, I used last week’s Card Patterns sketch along with the following Glitz Designs products:
  • Maya Patchwork (M2303) patterned paper
  • Maya Floral (M2266) patterned paper
  • Maya Damask (M2280) patterned paper
  • Maya Rub Ons (RO 2532)
  • Glitz Frosting – pink rhinestones

This is another 5 ½” square card upon which I layered a piece of Maya Patchwork paper onto pink cardstock for the background. This paper made it so easy to create the look of patchwork without all the work of piecing it together, and I love that! A length of lace was adhered below the patchwork paper as a border.

Next, I hand cut a large flower from the Maya Floral paper and mounted it on pink cardstock. The center of the flower was cut out as well and each of the petals were curved in order to add dimension to the flower. I painted the outside pointed petals of the flower with Shamrock Shimmerz paint and the inside rounded petals with Magenta Shimmerz paint. I then added two Prima flowers in the center of the flower to complete it. The flower was adhered to the card along with a piece of the green side of the Maya Damask paper which has the sentiment “bliss” rubbed onto it. The corners of the sentiment piece are embellished with pink Glitz Frosting rhinestones, and pink Prima pearl swirls were added to complete the card.

Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you have a wonderfully creative week!
